Balancing your horse out on the ground and under saddle can be a very
valuable tool when it comes time to advance both you and your horse. Just what
does this mean? Get to those feet, get them moving forwards, backwards, left
and right – equally. Try a simple test at first:
From the ground,
walk with your horse from one side of the arena to the other at a slow pace.
Then try to match that pace, going back across the arena in reverse, come back
at a sidepass one way, then a sidepass the other way. Did it take you the same
amount of time for each? If you are not sure, try using a stop watch. This is
not a race, just a balancing exercise. Most horses on the first several
attempts will not be able to do this exercise easily. Take your time. A horse
and human that can find balance in their feet can achieve almost anything.
Note: Don’t forget, there are two types of pressure - Physical and
Driving. So try the balance with both.

Development Program - Sept 4th - 30th Only 3 slots left!
This
will be an exciting opportunity for a select number of horses to participate in
our exciting new program. During these months Steve will be working side by side
with a small number of apprentices working on several areas of horsemanship,
from beginning to advanced principles. These horses will participate in this
program - every step of the way. Rather than seeing just a quick 30 minutes to
one hour a day, as with most training barns, these horses will actually be
partnered up with Steve and his students. They will become a part of the daily
activities on the ranch. These horses will receive more than just training; they
will have a purpose, which is a priceless key to their development.
