About Steve

Steve Rother is an internationally-acclaimed clinician and the two-time winner of the Mane Event Trainer’s Challenge colt starting competition in Canada. He is a regular contributor to the Northwest Horse Source magazine and has been featured on RFDTV ‘s “The Horse Show” with Rick Lamb. Known as The Horse Teacher, Steve is dedicated to all horse people who strive to teach their horses by educating themselves.

By the time Steve graduated from college he had taken nearly 10,000 riders into the national forests across Western America, traveling across some of the most rugged 'extreme trail' landscapes that the West has to offer. He has been able to combine this early education with a background in cow working, ranch roping, reining, cutting, dressage, jumping, liberty, trick training, and mustang gentling to provide one of the most well rounded clinic programs offered today.

Even though he wears a cowboy hat, many of his clients are jumpers, dressage, and gaited horse riders. It is Steve’s ability to communicate with both horse and rider that has allowed him to show thousands of horse owners the difference his methods can make! Steve has helped over 20,000 horses and their riders, and performed demonstrations to over 1 million spectators. Whether you are a backyard enthusiast or a professional, Steve can help you and your horse. He is not limited to specific disciplines, but rather the development of a willing partnership between horse and rider.

Many of Steve’s students have gone on to compete and win at many local, national, and international competitions, in both english and western disciplines. From 'extreme trail' to dressage - they have found a way to incorporate Steve's method to excel against the competition, and have fun while doing it. His students that don’t compete have learned how to Excel With Horses on a more personal level, many times even taking “untrainable” horses and turning them into willing partners. Steve holds nothing back and will show you exactly what techniques he uses for maximum results. Through the horsemanship clinics and videos, Steve can help you improve your horsemanship skills!

Some people ask, “How is this possible, how can one method affect so many different levels of riders, in so many disciplines?” The answer is simple, this is horsemanship, passed down from horsemen and the greatest teacher, the horse.

Steve spends most of the year conducting groundwork and horsemanship clinics and presenting at expos throughout the US and Canada. In 2008, Steve opened “The School of Horse” at Horse Creek Ranch in northeastern Washington. The school offers horsemanship camps, apprenticeships, and horse development programs.

Francesca has been working alongside Steve for 5 years, as his partner and constant student, and resides with him at Horse Creek Ranch. She knows Steve’s program inside and out and starts many colts at both clinics and The School of Horse. She has a passion for learning and for helping people improve their training techniques using Steve’s method. At the clinics and the ranch she is always there to offer additional help. Her desire to learn and understanding of Steve's program, make her an integral part of the Rother Horsemanship team.

She has shown Quarter Horses in English and Western disciplines and excelled at showing in trail.

“It took me a few clinics until I started really understanding the method. It seemed so opposite to what everyone else was doing. I had been to many other clinicians and trainers but still could not find the answers I knew were out there. After just one of Steve's clinics, the changes in my horse were amazing! It is so rewarding to now be able to help others attain positive results with their horses.”
